Thank you for your interest in the Tree Farm program in Wisconsin

If a landowner has their property enrolled in the Wisconsin DNR's Managed Forest Law program it is automatically enrolled in the ATFS Group Certification program, and is already considered a Certified Tree Farm, no additional paperwork or
inspection is necessary to certify a property that is currently enrolled in the MFL program.

The Wisconsin DNR's Managed Forest Law program offers several benefits to landowners interested in managing their property for timber production, recreation and maintaining wildlife habitat, and also offers a reduction in property taxes.

There is no cost to joining the Tree Farm program in Wisconsin. The basic requirements include owning at least 10 acres, and having a current forest management plan for your woodland that meets the AFF
standards for certification. To have your woodland certified, a forester that is a certified Tree Farm inspector reviews your management plan as they walk the property (often with the landowner).
The forester then makes a recommendation for certification if the minimum requirements are met.

Here are links to private forestry assistance resources on the WI DNR website and to a directory of private consulting foresters that work cooperatively with the WI DNR

Cooperating Foresters Directory

When you are looking for a forester, if there description includes the Tree Farm logo, chances are they can certify you in addition to working as a consulant with you to develop a mangagement plan for your property.

Or, once you have a current management plan for your property and would like to request a visit by an inspecting forester, please let me know and I can forward your contact information to the district chair in your area, they can let the volunteer ATFS certified Tree Farm inspectors in your area that you are interested in having your land certified, there is no cost to the landowner for the initial inspection.
