2024 Annual Field Day

Our 2024 event is Saturday, August 3rd, at the Welsch Tree Farm of Gary Welsch and Jodi Polzin, Outstanding Tree Farmers of 2023.  Located 20 miles northwest of Crivitz, the Welsch Tree Farm will host walking tours and a wagon ride tour. Features include: special sites and highlights of the Welsch property, red pine management, forest pest management, and bedrock geology of the property and surrounding area.  Welcome refreshments open at 8:00am.  Main events from 830am - 2:00 pm, with an additional optional demonstration at 2:15pm.

Pre-registration for this event is required.  Deadline July 26th. Registration fee covers morning refreshments, lunch and a field tour booklet.  Register online or by mail.  Open to public.  Family-friendly.  

Outdoor event.  Dress for the weather!  Terrain may be uneven.

Additional information on the tour includes: installing firebreaks to protect your forest, wildfire prevention in sandy pine/oak areas, impact of spongy moth, emerald ash borer and oak wilt and how to mitigate their impacts, and mechanized firewood processing.

Some of the terrain will be uneven. Please dress appropriately, including sturdy walking or hiking shoes that are water repellent. Bring a walking stick if desired.  Walking tours and wagon ride tours offered.  Bring rainwear and bug spray just in case it is needed.

Registration for this event is required.

The Welsch property is approximately 20 miles northwest of Crivitz or 28 miles east of Lakewood located 2 miles west and north of Athelstane on Northway Rd. Watch the east side of the road for the “Welsch’s 80” and “50 Year Tree Farm” sign at end of the driveway.
